Humans of China (2022)Looking China in the eyesHumans of China is a sequence of images aiming at depicting my personal vision of this immense and variegated country. Photographs shot very close to the subjects, in a direct, sometimes eye-to-eye relationship to the portrayed people, taken in the regions of Beijing, Shanghai and Guilin. I was looking for very spontaneous and everyday situations that may results a bit in contrast to the majestic architectures and natural sceneries that generally we identify China with. I was trying, therefore, to depict an everyday humanity made of simple things and acts and that is, often, disguised by the symbols and the complexity of a country often cryptic and hard to grasp to our westerner eyes. |
